Seong Gi-hun

Seong Gi-hun (Player456) is the main protagonist of Squid Game. His role is done by South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae. He participated in the deadly game to try out his luck and actually won. He was a divorced father who was raised by a single mother. He had a daughter. In order to fulfill the needs of his daughter, pay the hospital bill of his mother and to return the loan from the bank , he participated in the game.

Cho Sang-woo

Cho Sang-woo (Player 218). His role is done by Park Hae-soo. He was a childhood friend of Seong Gi-hun, and was leading an investment team at a securities company. After losing millions in illegal activities, To overcome his financial hardships, he participated in the squid game. He committed suicide to let Gi-hun win for his mother’s sake.

Kang Sae-byeok

Kang Sae-byeok ( Player 067). Her role is done by model HoYeon Jung. Sae-byeok agrees to participate in the Squid Game to make enough money to help reunite her family and get her younger brother out of the orphanage. She was among the three finalists for the game but she was killed.

Hwang Jun-ho

Hwang Jun-ho’s role is done by Wi Ha-joon. He was a police officer and detective who was looking for his lost brother. He believed that his brother is the part of the squid game so he investigated and discovered that his brother played the game and won in 2015.

Ali Abdul

Ali Abdul ( player 199). He came to South Korea with his family and found out that he was cheated out of his salary by his corrupt boss. To fulfill the needs of his family, participated in the game. He saved the life of Gi-Hun but later he was himself killed in the game after getting betrayed by Sang-woo. His death is considered to be the saddest part of the series.

Oh Il-nam

Oh Il-nam (001) is done by O Yeong-su. He is known as the squid game villain.He was an old man with a brain tumor and dementia. Due to his massive wealth and off-track faith in humanity, he decided to join this game and later died because of cancer after his statement that he enjoyed playing with Gi-Hun.

Jang Deok-su

Jang Deok-su (Player 101) is portrayed by Heo Sung-tae. He was a brutal thug who entered the game to resolve massive betting tallys. He died in the Glass Stepping Stones, in a murder-suicide with Han Mi-nyeo.

Han Mi-nyeo

Han Mi-nyeo (Player 212) is portrayed by Kim Joo-ryoung. She was a cranky, loud, and devious woman and her reasoning behind joining the game was to overcome her financial issues.She later killed Deok-su and herself in a murder-suicide during Glass Stepping Stones in order to take a revenge.
